Emerson | Smash the Cake
As most of you have probably noticed I have been doing less family sessions. I find my schedule is pretty busy these days in the wedding world. But there are some people that are just close to my heart and I will move my schedule all sorts of crazy to get them in. One of them is Natalie and Jamie. Way back when (okay it wasn’t that long ago!), they had comissioned me for their engagement and wedding photos. I was still so unsure of what to do with people at that stage – landscapes, flowers, rocks – anything and everything that didn’t move I was okay with. People? They were kinda of scary. But they trusted me anyway. Their wedding was my first ‘big’ wedding. I had worked with some smaller more civil ceremonies but this was a wedding, there was bridesmaids and flower girls and groomsman and cake (best cake ever) and dancing and a ceremony with a bunch of people in it. I was both excited and scared to death. I knew nothing about weddings. But I read everything I could find, I googled, I begged for information from any photographer that would talk with me. And we made it through. To this day, there are still some of their images I just love. (There are others though where I cringe – ah dear selective colouring……. so not my friend!).
Their wedding was also the start of my deep love affair of weddings. I loved weddings above anything else. I will forever be thankful to them for taking a chance on me.
Jump forward a couple of years and now Emerson is part of the family. When Natalie asked if I could be around for Emerson to smash her cake I was there.
